Tasting: Celebrate France!

Our Cheese Case is Overflowing...

In case you’re wondering what’s for dinner tonight, or a snack tomorrow, or breakfast the next day (you get the point), know that we have a lot of cheese! Both in our cheese case in the shop, as well as in our warehouse. Due to the volatile nature of sales during this pandemic, we’re having a challenging time regulating flow - and we don’t want cheese to go to waste. In fact, we’ve been told by some of our cheesemakers and distributors that we’re one of a few folks keeping the orders going. Help us keep up with that trend. It’s thanks to you Austin! So just when you open your fridge and stair inside it for 20 minutes wondering what your next meal will be, we’re grateful to be considered!

Vive la France: A Celebration of French Cheeses - Virtual Tasting
Tomorrow Night on Wed 7/15! Deadline to purchase tix midnight tonight. Today the French - and French around the world - celebrate Fête nationale. Otherwise known as Bastille Day (or National France Day), this holiday commemorates the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789 - marking a turning point in the French Revolution. And one of our most popular cheese tastings yearly is our Celebration of French Cheeses for this occasion. While we don’t have a class tonight (because honestly, it’s the pandemic and I can’t keep any days straight), we’re hosting our annual class tomorrow on Wednesday via our Facebook Live with the Antonellis. We’ll talk about the various regions of France as we taste our way through some of the country’s iconic cheeses. Purchase your tickets today, and you’ll get to pick up your cheese plate tomorrow afternoon via contactless curbside (or you can select delivery for a fee). Our Tasting will be live at 6pm on Facebook Live. (If you need to watch later, you can access the video on our facebook page later in the evening.) Tickets here. Behind the Scenes: Veldhuizen Cheese - JUST ADDED
Virtual Tasting on Sat 7/18 (from 6-7:20pm) Hooray! We love celebrating our Texas cheesemakers. Veldhuizen Cheese is a family-run operation in Dublin, Texas (near Stephenville). This pioneering family not only creates amazing cow's milk cheeses, but recently have taken on a herd of sheep to create a new line of products. Join us as we enjoy a behind the scenes look at this 20 year old farm showcasing how they work with two species of animals as well as 7 siblings. Owner Stuart Veldhuizen will join John Antonelli to share his passion and personal stories about running his farm and family. We'll also get a look into their beautifully designed aging rooms.

This virtual class series was launched as a direct response to the pandemic. Many of us have wander lust and are looking for a (mental) escape. Makers around the country are barely hanging on. This is our way to support both - a win-win! Join John Antonelli through his eyes as we take a virtual tour of where the magic happens... From walking pastures with the animals, to seeing creameries and milking parlors, to peeking into cheesemaking vats and cheese aging caves... We're going behind the scenes in areas normally not accessible to the public. And yes, you’ll get to eat 6 cheeses with food pairings. Awesome, right? Help us support our Texas cheesemakers! Purchase your ticket here, pick up your plate Saturday afternoon (or have it delivered for a fee), and tune into our private zoom tasting that evening.

Cheese + Music Happy Hour - NEW OFFERING
Thu, July 23 (6pm) We’re always looking for fun collaborations across sectors that support various folks. That’s why, Events Director Anna came up with the idea last fall to offer our Cheese + Music evenings. Of course, those were in our Cheese House - munching on a flight of cheese while listening to a local musician play a set. Well, we’re making it virtual too. We’re grateful to the talented Aaron Stephens for partnering with us again. Aaron Stephens is a singer/songwriter based in Austin, Texas. He mixes earnest, soulful pop together with his smooth voice and rhythmic guitar playing. The end result is heartfelt and groovy music that covers a variety of topics and emotions. So how does it work? Purchase your $30 ticket today. On the day of the event, pick up your cheese flight via contactless curbside (or have it delivered), and tune in at happy hour time of 6pm. This 45-minute event will definitely set you up for a perfect evening. Note: This is not a full guided tasting class. Instead, our cheese host will sporadically talk you through a flight of 4 cheeses and 4 food pairings, interspersed with a live set from Aaron Stephens. Info More info and tickets here. Get a sneak peek of Aaron’s music here.

In the News
This is just a shout out to the Virginia Cheese Guild - and Virginia Cheesemakers, retailers, mongers, and more for raising money for black farmers in America: “From 1920 to 2012, the percentage of Black owner-operators dropped from 14 percent to 1.5 percent. Structural racism against Black farmers has manifested in the form of discriminatory laws, a lack of labor protections, and unequal funding.” Read the full Eater article here, while we personally at Antonelli’s Cheese continue to look at how we can create a more inclusive and accessible community in cheese.
