Help Us - and Texas...
Our update is that….there is no update! We are currently continuing with the same operating procedures we have for the past year. Our number 1 priority remains the safety of our team and our customers. To that end, our shop is open for curbside only. You can preorder online or by phone (often for same day pickup, but do note that weekend slots can fill up). Not sure what to order? We get it! Choosing cheese online can be tough. Call us! We’re still here to talk you through it, and what’s tasting best. You can also take a virtual tasting class or host a private virtual tasting event. Select from our curbside event pickup options or our shipped Cheese Class in a Box options. And don’t forget we offer Cheese & Charcuterie Trays, Individual Snack Packs, and more for pickup or local delivery. (You can even place that cheese board order up until midnight the day before pickup.)
When will things change? Honestly, we don’t know. One thing we’ve realized in this business is that making certain predictions is challenging. We can say that we won’t open the shop back up to walk-ins and host in-person events until all of our team has had the opportunity to be vaccinated. And that feels so far away, yet so close. Feeling frustrated? We get it. We are too! And believe us, we can’t wait to chat cheese with you again. And see your smiles! And show you ours!
In the meantime, we appreciate your continued support. You’ve kept us going. Unfortunately, we estimate that our business suffered a $20K+ loss due to ice/snow storm Uri, and none of that is covered by insurance. Many of you have asked how you can help. Simply, start and/or keep buying from us! It’s a win-win. You get to support artisan producers, make your bellies happy, and support our Do Good Eat Good mission. And we get to keep doing it. Thank you. Pictured to the right is Winnimere, a seasonal cheese made from rich, winter cow milk at Jasper Hill Farm. Limited availability only for a short time longer!
Texas Relief Benefit
Sat 3/21 - Matthew and Camila McConaughey’s Just Livin Foundation is hosting a “We’re Texas” virtual fundraiser on 3/21 at 7pm. You can donate anytime, knowing that 100% of the donations raised through the just keep livin Texas Relief Fund will support the critical short-term, mid-term and long-term needs resulting from the devastation caused by Winter Storm Uri. Follow McConaughey on Instagram and Twitter for updates. The virtual event will be streamed on his YouTube Channel and exclusively broadcast in Texas on Spectrum News 1.
In support of these efforts, we’ll donate 10% of any purchases made for pickup that day. That means buy now, select 3/21 as your pickup date, come that day to get your cheese and charcuterie trays home to enjoy during the concert, and know that we’ll pay it forward by donating to the Just Livin Foundation to help Texans in need.
(Childhood) Cereal & Cheese Class - Wacky Pairings!
Wed 3/24 - Oh nostalgia. This pandemic has us dreaming of other times and places, and for some reason, John has been aching to do a (Childhood) Cereal & Cheese Tasting as a fun play on crackers and cheese. Fruit loops? Cocoa Puffs? Captain Crunch? We’re still decided pairings based on some fun crowdsourcing, but if you’re feeling like getting a little wacky with your carb pairing, hope you’ll join us for this fun edition of “Facebook Live with the Antonellis” virtual tasting. Get tickets here now, pick up your plate via curbside that Wed from 1-5, and join us at 6pm on Facebook for the live, interactive tasting. If you can’t join at 6pm, you can watch the tasting at your convenience anytime after 7pm when the video loads on our Facebook page (but note we still recommend enjoying the plate the same day we make it for best taste). Includes 7 cheeses, 7 pairings, and other bites. Cereal pic cred.
Spring Break Staycation - Visit the Hill Country
Spring Break is here - which if you’re an adult without children, really means just any other week. But, if you’ve got kiddos who have the week off OR if you’re just looking to switch things up a bit, don’t forget we have such great day trips in Central Texas.
Consider heading due West for some fun in Fredericksburg. But you’ll need to plan in advance. First, preorder some baked goods for a brunch and road snacks from the new Abby Jane Bakeshop (Thu-Sun) in Dripping Springs. They’re also doing dine-in and have some wonderful outdoor space. Then you’ll be ready to scoot to Fredericksburg. Book a wine tasting at Lost Draw Cellars in advance to taste wines that highlight the unique terroir of the Texas High Plains. Then refuel at La Bergerie, an artisanal wine bar and market specializing in fine wines, cheeses and house-made charcuterie, curated by John & Evelyn Washburne and cured by Chef James Monzon. After an afternoon stroll, head back towards Austin but stop on the way at William Chris Vineyards in Hye for a tasting at sunset. Founders Bill Blackmon and Chris Brundrett believe the best wines are grown (not made) and should be true to their native terroir. Make your reservation before you go. Of course, throughout the day, you’ll need to keep food in your belly, and all these fine folks source a variety of different artisanal foods from us. (And if staying for a wine tasting is too much at any point - or you can’t get a reservation - remember that you can order wines for curbside to pick up and bring home.)
Dirty Dancing - Community Cinema Drive-In
Fri, March 26 - Join the Community Cinema in a safe, socially distanced setting at Community First! Village. We will be partnering to provide drive-in folks with some delicious Cheese & Charcuterie movie treats (pre-order when purchasing your tickets). Otherwise their concessions stand will be open before the movie for credit card purchases of popcorn, candy, and drinks. Please note that cheese plates are PRE-ORDER ONLY and will not be available for purchase at the door. Online ordering will close on Thursday March 25th, at 3pm. Get more details and tix here.
