Ugly Tears, July 4th Cheese,
Alive and Kicking!
Y’all. Y’all. I realize that isn’t very eloquent or poetic but this wordy woman was speechless when we opened our doors last Thursday to a line of awesome customers waiting to come in. Thank you! Honestly, we weren’t sure if there would be crickets or not. And our warehouse and cheese house mongers showed up to cheer on our retail mongers. It just felt like a year plus of emotions culminating into that one moment. In fact, I was doing a live interview with Studio 512 and was totally caught off guard. You can see me break down on camera here with host Stephanie Gilbert on KXAN. (Don’t judge!) We got to talk about a lot of the new products we brought in during the pandemic. Reporter Kelsey Thompson took a different approach and covered what it took to survive as a business and what kept us going. You can read about it or watch prime time news coverage here. But better than both, we want you to simply come in and see us, taste some yummies, and let us walk you through a tour of the cheese case and shop. Open daily 11-7! Pictured here is Abby as she heads into her last week working with us before embarking on her parenting adventure and bringing baby Sage into this world with partner Calvin.
Eat Cheese TODAY and Feel GOOD About It
Shop with us today and you’ll be supporting the Austin Center for Grief and Loss. That’s right, they’re our #CharitableCheeseCause nonprofit beneficiary partner for the month of June. We’ll be donating 5% of all shop purchases today to help in their mission “to assist children and adults as they move from loss to life, transforming their grief through therapy, support, education, training and consultation.”
Cheese for July 4th (& Closed on 7/4!)
You hopefully know that one of our main goals is to promote American artisan cheese, so there’s no better time to show your USA pride than with a July 4th cheese spread that features all American-made cheeses. Make it festive with a red, white, and blue theme between the cheese, cured meats, and accompaniments. If you don’t want to build your own, remember you can order one of our cheese trays or even a fully-loaded picnic basket online.
One cheese we’re featuring on our board at home is Pour Me a Slice. This cheddar hails from the fine folks at Beehive Cheese in Utah. They collaborate with Basil Hayden’s to infuse their Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey into the cheese, resulting in a flavor that’s sweet and creamy with a hint of spice closer to the rind. Come in for a taste!
If you’re going to be firing up the grill, we suggest grabbing some of local Bee Tree Farm’s Halloumi, made from their goat milk. Friend of the cheese shop (and social media guru) Kati Luedecke of Killa Wasi and the recently opened Neighbors Dog Park & Coffee Shop whipped up this grilled halloumi and watermelon salad. Check out her recipe and more photos on our Instagram page.
Lastly, make sure to get all your goodies BEFORE July 4th, because our shop team is taking the day off to celebrate.
Become a Cheesemonger
Now that the Cheese Shop is open again, we’ve got a need for a couple full-time and part-time cheesemongers. If you’ve got any interest in making people smile, waxing poetic about artisan food, and getting lots of free samples and food at cost (plus free event tickets!), then check out application details here.
The Cheese House is OPEN for Events!
I've lived in Austin my entire life and, hands down, that was one of the coolest things I've done in this city. The cheese was delicious, the pairings were carefully chosen and the whole evening emanated a love of one's work and sharing it with others…You guys hit it out of the park. It was the best and most unique team event we've done to date. Cheers. ~Rachel

Makers in the News
One of our favorite picklers, Sheena Moore of Sheena’s Pickles, got a great write up in Voyage Austin. You can read about her pickling passion, including how she got started and how she sources, here. We love everything you do Sheena!
Sisters Kimberly and Priscilla Addison of 57 Chocolate got another press mention too. Honestly, I’m having trouble keeping up! Read how they're on a mission to make sure Ghana is known for great specialty chocolate - not just the cocoa beans - here in Lioness Weekender.
Stay Cheese - y!
